Now that you have chosen the right social media sites for your business, it is important to use these sites in an effective way that is not wasting your businesses time and possibly their money.

Jayson DeMers recently discussed social media time wasters and how to avoid them with 10 Social Media Time Wasters.

No Focus

Find your focus point for your social media. You do not need to be active on every social media site. Don’t waste your time on a site that your audience is not a part of. Spreading your message across a variety of sites will only dilute your message.

No Strategy

If your business is new to social media or you want to revamp your company’s campaign, it is important to create a strategy. Plan out your campaign. Time is wasted when you jump right into the site without having strategy.

No Schedule

Create a schedule with your social media strategy. Create a schedule that allows an hour or a day to social media and not a free for all. Decide what an appropriate amount of time is for your social media needs and stick to it.

Not Using Available Tools

For small businesses with only a couple different social media sites, it is easy to log into each site and post. For a larger business that can use almost all the sites, it can get confusing with all the screen names, passwords, and schedules. Tools such as HootSuite Sprout Social, or Buffer are available for use. These tools can access and post on multiple sites at once.

Using Too Many Tools

These tools can be useful for the amount of time that is saved. However, if you start to use too many, it can get districting and wasteful. Keep it simple and use only one.

Trying to do everything yourself

As you learn what sites are important to your business and your social media campaign grows, you’ll find that the number of task you need to complete will also grow. It may be time to hire an individual that can concentrates just on social media or outsource some task.

Failing To Schedule

Business owners cannot be present on social media all day. By planning and scheduling post, it can keep your business active on social media and you can keep running your business without worries.

Not scheduling will waste time. It will take away from your already busy schedule if you have to log in, write a post, and share it, everyday.

Real-Time Chatter

Social media’s main goal is to create conversation and engagement. Holding conversations with your audience is important, but it can also waste time if the conversation isn’t focused towards your business.

Notification Distraction

Responding to notification’s that mention your business is important, but replies can wait. Responses will take time and will pull you away from the task you were trying to complete. Set time aside to respond and complete what you need to complete now.

Failing to Engage with Your Audience

Social media’s main goal is to build relationships with your audience and presenting your brand. It is important to take time to respond to your audience and read what they have to say. Don’t waste time waiting, but set time aside to respond and interact.
