5 Signs You Need A New Logo

These days, brand image is everything. Well, brand image accounts for a lot of first impressions wherever you are! There are several reasons you might need a new logo but today we’re going to look at five signs that may indicate you need to start the process.

1. Lack of Brand Alignment

As businesses grow and change over the years, values and objectives can change as well. If your logo represented who you once were but doesn’t convey those objectives any longer, it may be time to look at a logo redesign. If there is a disconnect between your brand values and your perceived brand values as dictated by your logo, customers could be looking elsewhere for services.

2. Outdated Designs

Styles change over time in any industry. Logos are no different. Have you ever looked at a logo and known it was created 10 years ago? Updating your logo to have a more modern feel doesn’t mean you throw away the history. All major brands will have updated versions of their original logo that still convey the tone but with a fresh feel. Show customers that you’re willing to adapt with the times with a logo that feels current.

3. Poor Scalability and Versatility

A logo that was once created for print campaigns or signage could possibly translate poorly to a social or web design application. A graphic designer can give you a fresh version of the logo as well as other layouts and icons (what we call a “brand package”) that will work for each respective application. This level of customization feels intentional and doesn’t fit the final logo into a “one size fits all” situation.

4. Lack of Memorability

Logos that stand out from the crowd will make your business stand out as well. Investing in a graphic designer that will make you a unique logo that doesn’t look like a million others is worth it. Designers and artists will often think outside the box about how to represent your brand values and find creative ways to show that visually.

5. Merger or Company Renaming

A shift in brand values could occur after a merger or new ownership. Usually when one of these things happens, it is time to update your logo. Making sure that there’s alignment between the name change, new brand values, and all of the front facing materials makes for a great transition and sets expectations for potential customers who are curious about your company.
