Why Your Home Page is Hurting Your Sales

Like the front cover of a book, your home page is the first impression your potential customers get when it comes to your business. We know that when users are searching for information, they often get impatient when they can’t find what they are looking for quickly. Here’s why your home page is hurting your sales.

You don’t have a clear mission statement

If it isn’t immediately clear why users should be investing time exploring your site and services, you’ve already lost the sale. Creating a statement that simply explains how your business can help solve a problem or why your products are worth their money is the first step to leading customers further into your site.

You don’t have a clear focal point

Getting immediately lost within the home page can be a big turn off for customers. We have found that because English is read left to right, eye tracking suggests that users look at the top left of the screen and track to the right until they find something of interest. Creating a strong focal point that isn’t busy will help pull the eye to that point.

You don’t have clear navigation

If upon landing on your home page, users aren’t able to intuitively select where to head to next, chances are they will get frustrated and give up. Having navigation page titles that clearly indicate what content that will lead to is important. In addition to this, having a navigation menu that is well organized can also lead users to the right page.

Giving your website users clear direction and information about why they should continue to explore your site sets them up for success. Even if that user doesn’t end up as a lead or a sale, you’ve still made a good impression that could open the door to a sale down the road. If your home page is feeling lackluster, cluttered, or irrelevant, give us a call. We can help you with a fresh design that inspires your customers!
