Ok, you’ve created a Facebook page for your business and you’re pretty confident that you’ve set it up correctly. Way to go! Now what? First thing is to ensure you profile is complete, you have an attractive cover photo and profile picture that represents your business well. Once you’ve filled in all the blanks, dotted your i’s and crossed your t’s, you can move onto the next step. In my opinion the second step is the most important, building your Facebook audience.
You have a page and you are ready to post but, if you don’t have an audience to share it with then what was all your hard work for? The whole point of social media is for the “social” aspect. You build your reputation and support your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) via activity and growth you receive; increasing your “popularity” so to say with both your target market and the search engines. There are a few simple steps to initiate and build your follower base.
1.
Share your newly created page on your own timeline. Be proud of what you created, don’t be embarrassed to show off your business. However, it’s also important to be aware of not overwhelming your friends with constant posts from your business page, onto your personal page. You can share occasionally. but if they want to know what’s happening on your business page they will follow it. A good rule to go by is you can self-promote once in a while but not every day.
Click the “Share” button
Type in your message, be sure to use #Hashtags that cover the topic or category of what you offer.
2.
Invite your friends. That ever-growing friends list on your personal page has to be good for something, right? Well, this is it, send your friends a personal invite to check out your page.
Click on “Invite Friends” from the dropdown, once you do you can click through your friends and send them private messages that alert them about your page. They can choose whether they like it or not but atleast you put forth the effort to let them know it exists.
3.
Ask those you are comfortable with (family, friends, business associates, employees, etc.) to like and share your page. There is no shame in being proud of what you created, those that know you well should have no doubt that whatever business you are promoting is well worth it. Let them know your hopes and goals via your social media marketing and kindly ask them to share the news on their own social media. Spread the word by word of mouth. Work through your entire network both personal and business.
Once you’ve completed these few simple steps you should see your page, organically, growing. By establishing those first few likes, it should create a chain reaction of new likes and followers based on linking friends, interests and more. This is a great first start with your new business page, BUT it is just that….a “first start”. There is a lot more that goes into building your social status, in return improving your organic SEO ranking. Creating a strategy for your online marketing is key to success. Incorporating online marking, social media, blogging and more are necessary to improve and maintain your SEO and create new leads.
