3 myths about web design

You may have a lot of ideas about web design and different ways to perceive web sites in general. Well some may be true, but times are changing and we’re here to help dispel some myths about web design.

1. Anyone can build a website these days

While yes, the statement is true “anyone can build a website;” not everyone can build a good website. We don’t mean good from an aesthetic perspective although that’s a great start, but good from the end user’s perspective. We study a client’s potential demographics to determine best practices for their website in particular. Additionally, we’ve had many many years learning the trade and brushing up to make sure we are well equipped for each new website.

2. If it looks fresh, then it must be a good website

As we touched on in the previous point, a pretty website isn’t necessarily a good website. There are multiple considerations to be made about functionality, usability, flow, and copy. In fact, there have been many sites that were considered “new” but were awful to use from a users point of view and had many pain points. We pride ourselves about first making extremely functional websites that are also pleasing to look at. It’s a combination that often takes threading a needle.

3. The more elements the better

Some folks often have a long list of bells and whistles they’d like to incorporate into their site. A little of this and a little of that such as pop ups, customer service chats, animations, videos, etc. And while all of these have their place, it’s important to not add them for the sake of having something new and shiny and only add if it adds value to the site. Extra elements can distract from the real focus of the page instead of complementing them.

If you believed any of these myths, we hope you got some insightful information about the truth!
